If you’ve been following the electric vehicle world lately, you know that Hyundai’s IONIQ brand has been on a bit of a winning streak. From the retro-futuristic IONIQ 5 to the sleek IONIQ 6, they’ve been collecting “World Car of the Year” trophies like they’re going out of style.

But today, something even bigger just happened in Beijing. Hyundai didn’t just show off a new car; they launched an entire “Universe.”

A New Chapter in China

Ahead of Auto China 2026, Hyundai officially launched the IONIQ lineup brand in China. But this isn’t just a copy-paste of their global strategy. The company is leaning into a “human-centric” philosophy specifically tailored for Chinese drivers, introducing new technologies like local autonomous driving systems and Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs).

The coolest part? Their new naming convention. Future IONIQ models in China will be named after planets, symbolizing how each vehicle “orbits” around the customer.

To kick things off, they’ve introduced the first two “planets” in this new solar system: the VENUS and the EARTH.

Meet VENUS: The Brightest Star in the City

First up is the VENUS Concept. Inspired by the morning star, this isn’t your average sedan. It’s finished in a striking “Radiant Gold” and features a unique one-curve silhouette that looks like it was sculpted by the wind.

Inside, it feels less like a car and more like a high-end lounge. There’s a wrap-around cockpit with layered mood lighting and a fun little integrated character named “Lumi” to keep you company. It’s designed to be a “trend-setting” icon, and honestly, if the production version looks half this good, the streets of Beijing are about to get a lot more stylish.

Meet EARTH: The Family SUV with a Pulse

If the VENUS is about style and exploration, the EARTH Concept is about reliability and balance. It’s a bold, powerful family SUV finished in a color called “Aurora Shield.”

Hyundai describes the interior as a “small Earth.” It features “air-hug” seats made of soft air modules (which sounds like the most comfortable thing ever) and “shy-tech” elements that stay hidden until you actually need them. There’s even a fun “Aero” character and hidden map patterns of Beijing tucked away in the design for families to discover.

“Lead, Don’t Follow”

Simon Loasby, the Head of Hyundai Design Center, summed it up perfectly at the launch: “We chose to be ‘The Origin.’ Something entirely new… our ambition is to set a new direction.”

By focusing on “Best in First Impressions,” Hyundai is signaling that they aren’t just coming to China to compete—they’re coming to lead. With production models promised to follow soon, combining the “smart cabin” experiences Chinese consumers love with world-class safety, the IONIQ universe is looking very bright indeed.
