The Indian Ports Association (IPA) has adopted the Port Community System (PCS) to seamlessly integrate the port operations for all stakeholders. This integration has played an important role in improving movement of goods at ports and easing the process of imports and exports.
The IPA is now in the process of upgrading the system to PCSIx which is a cloud based system. It brings the various stakeholders of the maritime industry on a single platform. It not only offers a single window access but also had a mobile app to allow transactions, notifications and alerts on the move. The system is integrated with the international PCS allowing better communication and tracking. This platform also allows for interaction and tansactions with the customs for a hassle free and realtime payments. This system is revolutionising the Indian maritime sector by improving efficiencies at ports. Kolkata and Haldia are two such ports which have benefitted immensely by this system.
