CAF has announced that it shall install real-time remote monitoring and condition-based maintenance technology on the six train sets supplied by it to the Saudi Railway Co. These six trainsets operate on the 1,242 KM north-south route connecting Al-Qurrayat to Riyadh. All six train sets are for passenger service. The system called LeadMind would be installed onboard 62 coaches and 12 diesel power cars. This technology is already in use with several railways like the Trenitalia, Metro de Santiago, Euskotren and several tram operators in Amsterdam and Zaragosa. The Saudi Railway Company is also using a vibration-based track condition monitoring system provided by Perpetuum.
