Ashok Leyland to Develop sub-5 Tons LCVs

The Hinduja Group owned Ashok Leyland is the third largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India. Till now the company has been operating mainly in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MHCV) category with contributes 70% of their sales. Ashok Leyland has only one offering in the sub-5 ton category called the Dost (Friend). This vehicle has a payload of 2 to 3.5 tons. This category is ruled by Bolero Pickups from Mahindra and the Ace series of mini and micro trucks from Tata Motors. The company has confirmed that they are developing a series of sub-5 tone vehicles to take on Mahindra and Mahindra and Tata Motors.

Further, the company also announced at all their Heavy Trucks have received BS VI compliance cetificates from ARAI. The intermediate trucks and buses are also expected to rceive the certification on completion of homologation in a few weeks time.
