Piaggio Vehicles India, the fully owned subsidiary of Piaggio of Italy manufactures passenger and cargo three wheelers under the Ape brand. Piaggio also manufactures and sells Vespa and Aprilia two wheelers in the Indian market. The company is getting ready for the Bharat Stage VI (BS VI) emission norms to be implemented in India from 01 April 2020. They have invested nearly INR 350 Crore to upgrade their vehicles to meet these standards.

As a first step, Piaggio has obtained BS VI certification for their CNG based three wheelers. They are now well on the way to acquire BS VI certification for their diesel three wheelers as well as the for the Vespa and Aprilia two wheelers.

Diego Graffi, Managing Director and Chief Executive for Piaggio Vehicles India told , “We have received the certification for our BS-VI CNG engine from ARAI on September 25, much ahead of the schedule. It has made us the first player in the segment to get such a certification in the run-up to the BS-VI implementation.We will soon start production for alternative fuel segment and subsequently launch the product as well.”
