Dheeraj J Hinduja, the Chairman of Ashok Leyland announced that the company would soon be starting assembly operations in Russia with a local partner. He stated that a local partner helped gaining tax benefits.
Ashok Leyland is one of the biggest players in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles market in India. The company aims to start assembly operations in Russia within 12 months. As a result, Ashok Leyland is developing left hand drive versions of most of its commercial vehicles. The company is already exporting to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Middle East, Bhutan, East and West African markets.

Ashok Leyland will the second Indian company to do so as Tata Motors already sells LCVs under their own brand and heavy vehicles under the Daewoo brand name in Russia.
Ashok Leyland is among the top 10 Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle manufacturers globally and aims to enter the list of top 10 commercial vehicle manufacturers. The company says that its up coming range of LCVs will play and important role in fulfilling this ambition. They have also developed engines and obtained BS VI certification for their entire range of commercial vehicle.
