Indian Railways is unique in being a complete ecosystem in itself. The organisation makes its own locomotives, coaches and wagons in addition to running operations, catering, managing stations, running hospitals and even training engineers.

The Chittaranjan Locomotives Works (CLW) manufactures electric locomotives for the Indian Railways. This plant is located in the eastern province of West Bengal, India. CLW has created a record of sorts by manufacturing 402 locomotives in the financial year 2018-19, which is 1.1 locomotive every day of the year. The plant has been felicitated by and entered into the Limca Book of Records and Indian equivalent of the Guinness Book of Records.

CLW has been consistently building up its efficiency. In 2017-18 they had produced 350 locomotives and an improvement of 21% in one year is not mean feat.
