A-29 Super Tucano is a light attack, combat and reconnaissance aircraft built by Sierra Nevada Corporation and Embraer Defence and Security. The Nigerian Air Force had placed an order for 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to be delivered in 2021. The aircraft is popular among air forces and Embraer has either supplied or has orders to supply these aircraft to 15 air forces across the globe.
The A-29 Super Tucano is a turbo prop light attack, combat and reconnaissance aircraft. It is an ideal, reliable and cost effective solution for basic and advanced flight and combat training. It can also double as a close air support aircraft which has capability for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), armed over-watch, counterinsurgency and irregular warfare scenarios. Embraer has already delivered around 220 Super Tucanos.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft will now begin mission modification and final testing in Centennial, Colorado. Embraer will also train NAF pilots following final testing and before delivery to the Nigerian Air Force. Embraer claimed that the Nigerian Air Force A-29 Super Tucano aircraft met or exceeded all the requirements listed for testing.
“This is an exciting milestone in the production of these A-29s for the Nigerian Air Force. The Jacksonville production line is active, and Embraer and SNC look forward to seeing these aircraft continue to roll off the line in the coming months,” says Jackson Schneider, president & CEO, Embraer Defense & Security.
