Toyota Corolla was launched in 1966. It has been a widely loved model since and has sold more than 47.5 million cars across 150 countries. Toyota launched the newest generation Corolla in Japan in three body styles, a sedan, a wagon and hatchback.

The new Corolla is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and is offered with two engine options, a 1.8 litre petrol, 1.8 litre petrol-hybrid and a 1.2 litre turbo-petrol. All these engines are mated to either a seven speed CVT , a ten speed CVT or a six speed manual driving while the Hybrid has E4 electric four wheel drive. All transmissions are available with the option of either front or four wheel drive..

The Toyota Corolla is an evolution of the existing Corolla with a sleek narrow headlight and grille sitting over a wide and broad trapezoidal air dam. The air dam is flanked on both sides by round fog lamps giving the car an athletic look. The headlamps rise upward and have an inverted arrow shape pointing towards the air dam. A similar kink is seen in the tail lamps also, which are narrow and wide.

The instrument cluster and dashboard are typical Toyota, functional but not very appealing. The centre of the dashboard is occupied by a large 9″ touch screen with android auto and apple car play. The dashboard is double layered and aesthetically arranged with narrow and wide air conditioning vents. The interiors are black in keeping with the tastes of the target customers. However, seats can be ordered in either black or white. The Corolla Touring (wagon) is equipped with an adjustable deck board, and the height of the cargo floor can be set at two heights. A flat space convenient for loading long luggage is created by setting the height in the upper position with rear seats folded down, and tall luggage can be loaded by placing it in the lower seat.

The suspension uses McPherson struts on the front while the rear has a double wishbone. Toyota has provided the car with Active Cornering Assist to reduce under steer typical of front wheel drive cars. This is achieved by braking the inner driving wheel when the accelerator pedal is pressed. The Japanese Corolla is shorter than the international model with a tight turning circle radius of 5.0 meters. It is 4495 mm long, 1745 mm wide and 1435 mm tall. the wheel base is 2640 mm.

Toyota has fitted the Corolla with Toyota Safety Sense as standard equipment. It detects cyclists and pedestrians at night. It has an intelligent sonar based parking sensors, Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake which detects vehicles approaching from behind and helps reduce or mitigate damage from collisions. The Corolla is fitted with seven SRS airbags for further enhanced protection in case of a collision.

Keeping up with connected times, Toyota has provided the Display Audio as a standard equipment. Using the DA, customers can connect with smartphones and operate map applications and music via the touch screen display.
