After setting records at Nordschleife circuit (07’45”389 ) and Spa-Francorchamps circuit (02’48’’338), the Megane RS Trophy R broke its own record for a front wheel drive car at the 5.8 km long Suzuka circuit by clocking 2’25’’454. This record is important because Japan is a very important market for Renault and especially for the Megane RS.

2019 – Nouvelle MÉGANE R.S. TROPHY-R : Nouveau record sur le circuit de Suzuka

Till date there are around 10,000 Trophy R cars on the streets of Japan. At the end of September 2019, Japan was Renault Sport’s leading world market for the R.S. range, ahead of Germany and France.

The car was able to achieve the record thanks to its 300 BHP engine and weight reduction of around 130 kgs as compared to the previous model. Changes have also been carried out to the aerodynamic package of the car.

A total of 500 Renault Megane RS Trophy R cars would be built for global market. Each car is expected to cost approximately Euros 55,000 or more.
