Long bonnet, short boot, short overhangs, two seats, a growling engine, tasty 20″ wheels, broad haunches, wide and low stance of a car ready to pounce. All these boxes are ticked by the new Jaguar F-type which is an evolution of the outgoing model. The car has been updated with subtle changes to various shapes and equipment which are not very apparent at first sight. However, what is confirmed at a glance is that this is a Jaguar.

Jaguar has introduced sculpted and slightly redesigned front bumpers. The grille is larger and deeper, the head lamps are sleeker and with a new set of slim calligraphy DRLs. The rear tail lamps are also thinner than the outgoing model. The bonnet has new clam shell and vents. Interior seats are light weight and with Jaguar monogram.

What is different is a 12.3″ TFT reconfigurable multi display dashboard. Though the display can be programmed to show the full map mode, the default mode, as in self respecting sports car is a large tachometer. Jaguar is offering the car with Apple CarPlay as standard and Android Auto or Baidu CarLife depending on the market where the car is sold. All the systems offer software-over-the-air functionality to allow software updates without a visit to the service station. To keep company on long drives are two Meridian music systems, that is if you still need some music other than the growling and popping of the Jaguar engine.

Jaguar offers the car with three engine options in four states of tune. The smallest engine is a turbo charges four cylinder engine generating 300 PS of power. The next engine is a supercharged V6 producing 380 PS. If this also does not satisfy your need for speed, Jaguar has a super charged V8 producing 450 PS. The top of the line is a 575 PS supercharged V8.

All the cars are offered as both coupe and convertibles. While the 4 cylinder cars are available as only Rear Wheel Drive, the V6 and V8 are available as both RWD as well as All Wheel Drive. The power and torque are transmitted to the wheels through a quick shifting 8 speed automatic gearbox. The manual override can be engaged using the gear stick in the central console or the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

The new 450PS supercharged V8 generates its maximum torque of 580Nm from just 2,500rpm. Both the RWD and AWD versions of the car can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 177mph (283 km/h). F-TYPE R’s supercharged V8 produces 575PS and 700Nm sprinting to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds, while maximum speed is an electronically-limited 186mph (298 km/h).

Jaguar offers the car in various trim levels with all three engine options, The F-Type, F-Type R-Dynamic, F-TYPE First Edition and the F-TYPE R which is only available with a V8 575 PS engine.

The interior features 12-way Windsor Leather seats in Ebony with Light Oyster stitching, or Mars with Flame Red stitching. Other highlights include the instrument cluster wrapped in Alcantara with Monogram embossing, aluminium gearshift paddles, an Engine Spin centre console finisher with First Edition branding, and an Ebony Suedecloth headliner.
