Nordhavn is an American Yacht builder building yachts since 1977. During the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) revealed their latest flagship yacht which has been designed in collaboration with Vripack Design house of Netherlands. The two companies came together because Nordhavn does not have much experience in design with steel while Vripack is a specialist in the material.

The outcome of the collaboration if the N148 which is the first steel hulled yacht from Nordhavn. The vessel has a steel hull which can withstand journey through ice also and aluminium super structure. The N148 is 45 meters long and has a beam of 8.8. With a draft of 2.7 m, it can easily sail into shallow bays for anchoring. The interior is done by Vripack and is considered to be spacious, comfortable and luxurious. It is powered by Caterpillar CAT C-18 Acert engines which allow it a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 14 knots.

The N148 can carry 12 guests and 10 crew. The accommodation has been provided on two decks. The owner’s accommodation is on the main deck, which also holds a Jacuzzi. Accommodation for guests is in the lower deck. The N148 also has space to berth two 8 meter tenders for ship to shore transportation. The yachts would be built in Europe and will need approximately 24 months to complete.
Vice president of Nordhavn’s Pacific Asian Enterprises division Jim Leishman says, “We’ve talked about building a larger boat for a while now. It would be something specifically meant for the most challenging worldwide conditions.”
