Electric bike sector has seen a surge of startups launching bikes either assembled under license or designed in India. However, most of these bikes are slow and have short range; plus they take an eternity to charge. To overcome these limitations, e-bike startup eMote Electric Pvt Ltd has been developing a performance electric bike since 2015. Through with the design process and armed with a product level certification, the company plans to launch its geared e-bike called the Surge during the Auto Expo 2020 at NOIDA.

The Surge is claimed to have performance, acceleration, speed and range comparable to petrol bikes. The Surge is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60 Km/h in 4 seconds. It has a claimed top speed of 120 Km/h and a range of 300 Kms. It has a 70 litre storage space. The bike is claimed to be fun to ride and is differentiated from other e-bikes in having a gearbox including a reverse gear. The Surge can be charged to full capacity within 30 minutes.

eMote is developing further developing five or six more prototypes and aims to sell approximately 10,000 bikes in the first year after launch.
