Maruti Suzuki has displayed the Japan specific short wheel base Jimny at the Auto Expo 2020. The Jimny was initially launched as an off-road vehicle in the 1970. It is a simple but rugged off road car with a body on frame construction. The car on display at the Auto Expo is the fourth generation Jimny.

India is not new to the Jimny as the long wheel base second generation car was sold in India as the Maruti Gypsy. These cars can still be seen in service with the Indian Armed Forces and Police in several states.

The Jimny is sold by Suzuki in 194 countries. The Jimny has low range transfer gear and 3-link rigid axle suspension helps boost performance while ensuring good ride comfort. The new generation car also comes with Suzuki’s 4WD drive with the ALL GRIP PRO technology. The car is 3,550 mm long, 1,645 mm wide, and 1,730 mm tall. It has a wheel base of 2,250 mm. Its powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine producing 100 BHP of power at 6,000 rpm and 130 N-m of torque at 4,000 rpm.
