Chinese railways major CRRC Tangshan has introduced the new generation autonomous metro train based on the Type B Metro trains. These trains have a redesigned interior which allows a crush load of 2,300 passengers in a six coach train. This is same as the crush load of a seven coach Type B train.
The new train has been manufactured using a new type of stainless steel which has reduced the weight of the train by 10%. Also these trains are powered by more efficient permanent magnet traction motors. The Air conditioning system has also been updated to improve efficiency.
The combines effect of a shorter, lighter train with more efficient motors and air conditioning system is a significant saving in energy consumption. As the trains are completely autonomous, the running cost further reduces due to reduce requirement of staff to man and operate these trains.
These trains have been designed by CRRC Tangshan.
